General Surgery Residency at Northern Westchester Hospital (GSR@NWH)
Welcome to the Northern Westchester Hospital General Surgery Residency Program! As of 1 September 2026, we are thrilled to announce our initial ACGME accreditation and will proudly welcome our first cohort of three categorical and three preliminary residents in July 2027. NWH, a leading community-based hospital in Mount Kisco, New York, and a proud affiliate of the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, offers an exceptional training environment. We are celebrated for our commitment to state-of-the-art technology, world-class patient care, and a broad spectrum of specialized services. Our unwavering dedication to quality and patient safety is independently recognized through top accolades such as a Grade A safety grade from LeapFrog, a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and a Stroke Gold Plus rating from the American Heart Association.
Our program is designed to train diverse surgeons in patient-centered, evidence-based, and cost-conscious care, emphasizing healing and community wellness. As the primary training site, NWH provides residents with extensive exposure to a high volume and complex variety of surgical cases across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Led by Program Director Dr. John Cha and our distinguished board-certified faculty, we foster a collaborative environment that promotes intellectual growth, interprofessional work, scholarship, and innovation. We aim to develop compassionate physician leaders who not only achieve clinical excellence but also drive improvements in healthcare delivery and commit to lifelong learning and personal well-being.
Please look for continued updates to this site during fall of 2026 (September-November)!
Curriculum, Rotations and Research
We have developed a curriculum that will ensure that our residents will be able to deliver the highest quality care to their patients while taking care of themselves. The curriculum is structured so that trainees will have the necessary core knowledge and skills to develop into complete physicians.
Application Process
We are committed to a holistic approach to evaluating every applicant. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
